Beer Ingredients

Beer is made from 4 main ingredients: grain based sugars, hops, water, and beer yeast. You’ll also need things like additional sugar for bottle carbonation (priming) and perhaps different adjuncts or additives like corn or oatmeal. Also, depending on your choice of beer style and the water you are using, you may also need to adjust the acid levels in your beer.

Beer Recipes

To start with, the first thing you’ll want when brewing is a recipe whether it be all-grain or partial mash. To check out some of our recipes:

  • All-grain recipes
  • Partial mash recipes
  • Sterile wort recipes
  • Concentrated wort recipes

Beer Making Kits

Brewing from kits are also good options, whether they be no-fuss sterilized wort, Coopers concentrated canned beer kits, or partial mash kits. To learn more about kits and browse our beer kit selection.

Grains for Beer Making

Grain based sugars form the base of any beer. Once you have a recipe, you’ll definitely need them. Whether it be malted barley, wheat, or rye, dry malt extract (DME), or liquid malt extract (LME), we have what you are looking for! We also carry a variety of adjuncts like corn for signature american styles and oatmeal for enhanced texture. To learn more about malt and malt extracts check out our blog (link). We also offer malt extracts for purchase.

Beer Hops

Whether your brewing an all-grain or partial mash, or want to give an extra flavour kick to your beer kits, fresh hops is something you’ll need. Hops balance out the sugary flavours of malt by giving off a bitterness and often unique woodsy, citrus, or floral aromas. They are the signature of styles like IPAs. At Danny’s we carry a wide variety of fresh hops in pellet form

If you’re having trouble finding a particular variety, check out our hop substitution chart!

Beer Yeast

Your choice of beer yeast can make a huge impact on the beer you are making. Whether its a wheat ale, crisp lager, beefy stout, strong IPA, or American cream ale, you’ll want to pick the right yeast for the job. Yeasts all ferment differently, clear differently, produce different flavours, and have different alcohol tolerances. Check out our blog if you’re interested in learning more about beer yeast and how best to use it. Browse our beer yeast comparison chart and liquid to dry beer yeast substitute chart too!

Sugars

Dextrose corn sugar is also a common and key ingredient in beer making. It can be used to boost alcohol content easily without changing the flavour and is called for in concentrated beer kits. It’s also one of the best ways to prime your beer for bottle carbonation!
