Apple Wine - 5 Gallon Recipe
Ingredients:
- 35-40lbs of Apples or 2.5 gallons of juice (9.5 litres)
- 2.5 gallons of water (9.5 litres)
- 10 lbs of Sugar
- 7 ½ tsp of Acid Blend
- 2 ½ tsp of Pectic Enzyme
- 1 ¼ tsp of Tannin
- 5 tsp of Yeast Nutrient
- 10 Campden Tablets
- 1 pkg of Champagne Yeast
Starting S.G. approximately 1.085-1.090
Directions (Whole Apples):
- When making apple wine with fresh apples ensure that only ripe, firm ones are used that are free of any rot. If you wouldn’t want to eat it, then you shouldn’t use it in your wine.
- Wash your chosen apples. High acid content apples like McIntosh or Jonathans tend to work the best.
- Press the juice from the apples with a fruit press. Cutting the apples into smaller pieces first helps with this process.
- Transfer the juice and water into your sanitized primary fermenter.
- Add sugar, acid blend, pectic enzyme, tannin, yeast nutrient, and 5 campden tablets. Mix well.
- Wait 24 hours and add yeast.
- Attach airlock and place in a warm temperature area (within the recommended temperature of the yeast).
Directions (Pre-pressed Juice)
- When making apple wine with fresh apple juice ensure that no preservatives have been added. Preservatives may prevent fermentation from occurring.
- Transfer your juice and water into a sanitized primary fermenter.
- Add sugar, acid blend, pectic enzyme, tannin, yeast nutrient, and 5 campden tablets. Mix well
- Wait 24 hours and add yeast.
- Attach airlock and place in a warm temperature area (within the recommended temperature of the yeast.
This kit contains all the essential additives to make your very own apple wine at home. Note this kit does not contain sugar, apples, or apple juice.
